ABOUT THE ARTIST:

 

Jess Tedder is a Turkish-American painter based in Dallas, Texas. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from the University of Texas at Arlington, where she developed a foundation in traditional technique while cultivating a deeply personal visual language.

Her work has earned national recognition, including a Top 10 finalist position—selected from hundreds of applicants—for a scholarship to the prestigious Florence Academy of Art. She was also featured in New American Paintings, Issue 174. In 2024, Tedder was awarded an artist residency in Ajijic, Mexico, where she spent a month creating new work and engaging with the local community through artist talks and cultural exchange.

Tedder’s paintings have been exhibited in numerous group shows throughout the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex, including a hand-selected showcase at The Other Art Fair. Her work bridges worlds—drawing from her Turkish heritage, her love of Texas and Western life, and the atmospheric pull of dreamy, expansive landscapes.

Outside the studio, Tedder works as a DFW-based flight attendant, traveling internationally and gathering visual impressions, color memories, and fleeting moments that later surface in her paintings. This rhythm between movement and stillness—between faraway horizons and familiar ground—continues to shape her evolving studio practice.

Riding Solo: A Retrospective by Jess Tedder

For the first time in years, Daum Gallery presents a rare solo exhibition of works by one of the most prolific—and most private—artists in the DFW art community. Jess Tedder seldom exhibits publicly, making this a unique opportunity to experience the scope of her work.

​

For Tedder, the act of creating is instinctive. A stranger sketched in ballpoint pen while waiting at an airport gate, a fleeting expression captured in graphite, or a quiet landscape translated into oil—her work moves fluidly across mediums and moments. Tedder observes the world with a restless curiosity, and her hand responds just as quickly. What emerges is a body of work that feels immediate and alive, each piece a reflection of a moment that insisted on being seen.

Presented for three days only, Riding Solo offers a retrospective glimpse into Tedder’s evolving practice—An artist driven by creativity not as a choice, but as a necessity.The exhibition gathers works spanning mediums, moments, and years of quiet creation.

Opening night will feature a live performance by Jess’s brother, Matt Tedder, a beloved local musician.

​

Guests will also enjoy libations generously provided by STILL G.I.N | Gin & Juice and Texas Ale House.
